HRM Denouement
Maybe this isn't enough of a saga to warrant the term "denouement" but I finally fixed my HRM. The strap battery was dead. I must say that I'm not very impressed with Polar for selling me a dead HRM strap. So after determining that it was something wrong with the HRM and not my heart by having some other guinea pigs try and fail to make it work I went down to Skinny Raven and bought a new strap. And now I know my heart rate, but frankly, I'm not all that convinced that it was worth the aggravation.

Ha, a new word to me. You should add a link to m-w.com on the right. Such are the advantages concomitant with reading your blog.
Well, I only learned denouement from Lemony Snicket, his Book the Twelfth of A Series of Unfortunate Events takes place in the Hotel Denouement. Otherwise I wouldn't know it either.
But how did you set training zones (L1, L3, L4 etc) without correlating your heart rate to lactate levels? Did your coaches lactate test you much?
If you had chosen to take French at WHS instead of Spanish, you would have known dénouement and even how to print the accent aigu when you type it!!!
charlie-
the funny thing about HR/lactate is that I'm way better at gauging my lactate levels now than my HR. So when we have L3 intervals I think 4mmol of lactate instead of thinking in term of HR.
For lactate tests I would borrow a HRM so that coaches could get a graph of HR vs lactate.
