V2 Alt
Now that I'm back in Anchorage it's back to serious training. I'm trying to improve my high speed V2 Alternate. It's been a weakness for awhile and it's time to try and fix it. I have trouble swinging my arms fast enough and compressing my legs explosively enough. I also don't commit to each leg enough and stretch my body out and open my arms high enough at the high point of the V2 Alt. Linzee, one of my dance instructors in college would tell me that I'm not finishing my movements. Drat. There's just not enough motion and speed in my V2 alt. Not enough. Something to work on this week.

Hi Laura, Checked your site to see where you folks are skiing. HP I assume? But while I’m here … if you don’t mind, I’ll offer some unsolicited technique advice for getting a greater range of movement in your V2 Alt technique. Pick 2 points on a stretch of trail and mark them. Then count how many V2 alternate strides it takes to cover the distance. Say it takes 24 strides. Keep doing this stretch of track and try to reduce the number of strides. To get down to a count of 20 or below you will have to concentrate on max extension and explosive moves. Then when you get the count as low as you can … try going faster while doing the same count of strides. Tim
Actually skating at Hillside this morning and classic at Glen Alps Thursday.
Thanks for the drill, it's a good one for sure. Sometimes I just ski and forget to do drills and technique work.
I'm a big fan of doing the slightest hop right before the pole plant for V2 alternate when sprinting. And I know I'm right, because Andy Newell does it too, so I won't even apologize for the unsolicited advice :)
ah yes, the hop. I was practicing that on rollerskis this summer but haven't seemed to have the balance to do it yet on skis. That I will also try.
