Doors and such.

Now that the upstairs bamboo floor is (mostly) intact, CA and I have been putting some of the doors back together. Our first door didn't go so well.

Apparently not all doors are created equal.

Because the house came with trim & without floors, we have had to be creative to make the edges work. Most places we have cut off the bottom of the trim boards to be able to fit our flooring underneath but other areas that wasn't possible, so to make it look uniformly nice, we're trimming the trim with a bamboo quarter-round.

I absolutely love our bamboo & tile. I was surprised when I wandered over into the carpet section of Lowe's and noticed that the carpet was, for the most part, more expensive than our bamboo & travertine per sq ft of material. (It helps that the travertine was on sale.) It made me wonder why people use carpet when they could use hardwood or tile for a similar price. Then I added in the sweat equity we'd put into the floors. Measure, cut, lay, nail for every single board. It made me think about how it's not always money that determines how nicely something turns out, a lot of it depends on how hard you're willing to work on it. Because Lowe's advertises $97 carpet installation of your entire house with purchase of carpet and, while I have no idea how much the labor would cost for our bamboo & tile, I imagine it's something above $97.

Ah, I so agree. Dan refinished our hardwood that had been carpeted (!) over in most rooms. He also did the tile in the bathroom and would be pleased to see your tile is also angled. Much more interesting.

Good job Dan! It's supposed to make the room look bigger. So say the experts.
