So I casually referenced Danny Macaskill in a conversation yesterday, assuming the person to whom I was talking would know exactly who Danny Macaskill is. Apparently there are still people out there who haven't seen this video:
We went down to Whistler Bungee Friday afternoon for an off-day activity. Most of the team had previously been bungee jumping but it was my first experience. Not gonna lie, I was a little concerned that I would be too scared to actually jump off the bridge but I managed.
So it snowed last Saturday night when we were on the glacier and Erik had this great idea to have us make a snow road so that they could drive the piston bully up to park it in one of the trailers over the winter. I'm sure it'll help keep down the wear on the PB but I'm also suspicious that he just wanted to keep us busy on Sunday after our OD and while we were waiting for a ride down in a helicopter (the snow made hiking not impossible, but rather unpleasant). It also means that they don't have to spend tons of hours digging out the PB next June. So we spent a solid chunk of time creating a 9' wide level path of snow between the glacier and the trailer so the PB could drive it without ripping its belt apart on the rocks. Anyway, we moved a lot of snow on Sunday. I haven't seen the coaches since then so I don't know if the PB ever actually made it into its garage. I hope so.
Here's a clip near the completion of the project when we took a break from shoveling to help pack down the driveway. There's something about seeing Lars Flora, Strandberg, Southam, Randall, & Ellis marching in a row that makes me laugh. Kalysta Schmidt is the one in the yellow t-shirt. At the end is a clip of Bobby Miller from the first day on the glacier showing what happens when you take nice boys from the suburbs of Minneapolis and transplant them to Alaska.
My, um, film making here is less than impressive... my computer is all in French which doesn't usually phase me but when I opened up iMovie and tried to do some editing the vocab requirements totally defeated me.
Realizing that my primary audience is ski nerds, I still can't help sharing this video with my fellow math nerds. Sergei, I know you will love it & I'm guessing there's a few others who will too.
Here is an absolute gem of a rollerskiing video-- a clip from an episode of the "Amazing Race" tv show. I about died laughing. Thanks to fellow ITA athleteKate Whitcomb for the link.
Near the top of the first long uphill of the first lap of the men's 30km pursuit today. They did 4x3.75km classic and 4x3.75km skate. The women's race was 2x3.75km classic and 2x3.75km skate.
The 4th & 5th men's quarterfinals at Drammen which Andy and Torin were in on Wednesday. I'm sure I'm violating all kind of copyright since I just taped the video screen at the venue, please forgive me.
I replay Andy's fall in slow motion for ya, it's pretty sweet. His klister stuck, which is not sweet at all, but he gets up fast. Way better than the Norwegian that slide off the track into the barrier fence and then just lay there. Although if I crashed into a fence on a downhill I might have just laid there too.
For warm-up before strength we do some plyometrics/spenst (as does almost every ski team). When I wanted a video of the skate jumps, my team was very cute and all jumped together with the same timing.
In case you want to know who's jumping:
Boy's Line: Brent Knight, Bart dengel, Jeff Ellis, Dylan Watts, Peter Kling, Mikey Matteson, Kalysta Schmidt (uh, not a boy).
Girl's Line: Kikkan Randall, Kate Arduser, Cassi Rice, Sarah Radonich, Katie Ronsse, Becca Rorabaugh, Ky Eiben, Holly Brooks, Erika Klaar, Kate Fitzgerald.
